Not enough members of the Black and Ethnic Minorities (BME) communities raise concerns about the services they receive from the National Health Service (NHS); despite the fact that sometimes these services are second-class. In order to address this problem the NHS recently supported a project to set up reporting centres among BME communities in Bristol to provide easy points of contact for BME people to register their concerns in relation to NHS services as well as being a communication point for the NHS.

The African Voices Forum recently accepted the invitation to set up one such reporting centre where its members are welcome to register their concerns in relation to NHS services as well as being a communication point for the NHS. This AVF NHS reporting centre is essentially there to help its members who feel they have been let down by NHS services on the basis of their ethnic or racial background; their concerns will be recorded and transferred to the NHS reporting frontline staff to follow up and find a solution

The role of the AVF NHS Reporting Centre includes:

  • To register details of incidents / concerns relating to NHS services, if necessary anomalously and on behalf of a third party.
  • To record Issues and incidents that may have been observed by staff, family members or friends as well as directly experienced by individuals.
  • To Advise BME service users about PALS services.
  • To, if appropriate, complete PALS enquiries form with the service user and facilitate putting them in touch with a PALS officer.
  • To inform and advice members on consultations and other public meetings organized by the NHS.
  • To run in partnership with Bristol NHS various workshops and activities aiming at improving the Health oh their members.

If you feel you have concern/s with any of the NHS services related to a personal experience or the experience of a friend or relative please feel free to contact the AVF Reporting Centre.
